http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBt6gSGRZ-Y

Talk about daily life -- how it's changed
Item -- then and now
  • TV -- no tv, or bw
  • Hand held calculator
  • Bandaid
  • Windshield wiper

Maybe mention how inventions come up -- there's a story with each one -- and they can be an inventor as well! (this might be a good idea for next week -- a story about how to be an inventor?)

Radio show -- use to talk about making sound effects
http://www.oldradioworld.com/Back_of_the_Mike.php

Pairs -- make sound effects and record them...
Guess what the sound is!!!
Then get with a Mom and write out the use cases (directions) that another Mom can do to make the same noise (2 sounds)

Debrief -- listen to noises, give directions to another Mom to make that noise

Timeline -- stay in same pairs and put timeline together

Groups: LEGO Build

Get all the timelines together
Pick one or two of the inventions and see if they can build some of those models -- either a sequence or one or two...

1903: Manually operated windshield wiper from the inside:

http://www.kansas.com/2012/09/19/2496203/092212allenchevies.html

The header panel above the windshield contains a crank mechanism that allows the glass to be cranked up a few inches for interior ventilation. The windshield wiper operates via a conventional vacuum pump, not the crank.
